they have requested that two sites in the Taipingshan Dis-

-trict marked 'A' and 'B' on the enclosed plan and compri-

-sing an area of 5,232 and 2,700 Square Feet respectively

may be reserved for their use. The estimated value of the

land in premium (at$2.50 per Square Foot and Capitalised

Crown Rent at the rate of $700 per acre) is $21,650.

It is proposed that site 'A'

should have erected on it a building to contain lecture

rooms,

laboratories, libraries, offices, etc., and that a

detached dissecting room and anatomy lecture room should

be built on 'B'. 'A' has at present a matshed on it for

the temporary housing of Sanitary Department Coolies; 'B'

is unoccupied. There are no other available sites so well

adapted for the requirements of the College. They are

easily reached from the centre of the City and are

conve-

-niently placed with reference to the Government Civil

Hospital, the Tung Wa Hospital, the Bacteriological

Laboratory and kindred institutions.

I propose therefore subject to

your approval to reserve this land for the College for a

period of five years on the understanding that if at the

termination of that period the College has raised a sum

equivalent to the value of the land the free grant of the

sites
